Keep Your Faith

I was a part of the teal team this year. As the parents of teens who have been on the trip probably know, every year each work group picks a song that is played at the post trip reflection as we see pictures from the trip in a slideshow. It took a little time, but the teal team chose “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. I speak for my whole team when I say that this song pretty much sums up what our work week felt like. We overcame a lot of frustration and obstacles, and it took a lot of patience and resilience; but I know I wouldn’t have gotten through it without the people on my team.

Our first homeowners, Janet and Waqar, told us that they had dated in college, were apart for more than twenty years, and now are back together and happily married. When I first heart this story, I thought they must have had a crazy amount of faith that they would see each other again. I think this just proves that if you have faith in the people you care about, things will work out just fine. While we had a lot of work to do, we still managed to have fun together and keep our spirits high. In the song, Miley sings the words, “keep your faith.” This is exactly what we did: we kept our faith in each other and we got our work done while still connecting with each other and our homeowners. I’m so thankful for everyone on my team, and I will never forget this year’s trip.
